Albert J. Yanushonis, age 86, of Port Carbon, PA passed away Thursday, February 27th, 2014 at Rest Haven in York, PA.

Born in Port Carbon, PA on June 20, 1927, he was the son of the late Anthony and Eva Cernis Yanushonis.

Albert graduated from Soldiers Memorial High School in Port Carbon, where he was an All State basketball player.  He served in the U.S. Navy as a Seaman Second Class during WW II.  Albert was a State Trooper for the Pennsylvania State Police and after his retirement, he worked for the Good Samaritan Hospital as a guard.

He was a member of St. Stephen Roman Catholic Church in Port Carbon, a member of the FOP, and a life member of the DAV, PA Chapter 77.  He played for the Keystone Cops Basketball Team and he loved watching football, baseball, and basketball.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years Helen T. Drula Yanushonis on July 26, 2009 and 2 half-brothers:  Joseph and Anthony Donkus.

Albert is survived by a son Albert A. Yanushonis and his wife Cindy K., York, PA; a daughter Lisa M. DiBerardo and her husband Rick A., Baltimore, MD; 2 grandchildren:  Jason A. Yanushonis; and Lindsay M. DiBerardo; and nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the St. Stephen Roman Catholic Church in Port Carbon at 10:30AM on Friday, March 7th, with Rev. David W. Karns officiating.

Relatives and Friends are invited to a viewing on Thursday evening from 6-8PM and Friday morning from 9-10AM at the Robert A. Evans Jr. Funeral Home, 208 Pike St., Port Carbon.

Interment with Military Honors will be held in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the JDRF 26 Broadway, 14th Floor, New York, NY  10004.
