Edwin L. Bowers, age 76, of Port Carbon, PA passed away on Monday, July 7th, 2014 at his home.

Born in Pottsville , PA on July 30, 1937,  he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Gallo) Bowers.

Edwin was a graduate of Pottsville High School, Class of 1955.  He then served in the U.S. Navy from 1955 till 1959.

After his discharge from the Navy, he worked as an extrusion operator for the Hercules Powder Company in NJ. and then moved to Port Carbon and worked as an extrusion operator for the Allied Chemical Company in Pottsville.  He then worked as a truck driver for the Guers Dairy in Tumbling Run, the Pottsville Wholesale Company, and lastly retired in 1998 from the DeHart Company.  Also during his working years he owned and operated his own coal delivery business.

Edwin was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Pottsville.  He was a 32nd Degree Mason in The Valley Lodge in Bloomsburg and the Pulaski Lodge No. 216 in Pottsville and he was a Past Master in the St. Clair Lodge.  He was a member of the Navy Club in Minersville, and he loved to go fishing and hunting and gardening at his home.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Frances Stalb.

Edwin in survived by his wife of 54 years, Dolores D. (Zucofski) Bowers, Port Carbon; son Anthony J. Bowers and his wife Kay, Pine Grove; daughter Debra L. Bowers and her husband Joseph DePalma, Garnet Valley, PA; daughter Laurel M. Koberg, Lake Wynonah; son Edwin T. Bowers and his wife Kimberly, BelAir, MD; son-in-law Heino Koberg, Allentown; 9 grandchildren:  Keagan, Nathan, Gavin, Aric, Andrew, Katrina, Jessica, Benjamin, and Chloe; 2 great-grandchildren:  Hakeem and Preston; 3 sisters:  Mary Wather, NJ, Josephine Swantner and her husband Fred, Pottsville, and Faith Cook, Pottsville, and nieces and nephews.

A Religious Service will be held at the Robert A. Evans Jr. Funeral Home, 208 Pike St., Port Carbon at 10:30AM on Friday, July 11th,  with Rev. Harold Hand officiating.

Relatives and Friends are invited to a viewing onThursday evening from 6-8PM and Friday morning from 9:30-10:30AM at the Funeral Home.

Interment with Military Honors will be held at the Schuylkill Memorial Park Cemetery in Schuylkill Haven.
