William R. Guers, 85, passed away on March 21, 2017, at home with his family, his wife of 65 years, Grace Louise Guers (Delker).

Born February 5, 1931, in Tumbling Run, Tamaqua, PA, William was the son of the late Daniel F. and Gertrude W. Brokhoff Guers.  He attended Blythe Township School System.  At the early age of 15 he began his business career with a poultry business and Christmas tree farm. He continued his lifelong business career making modifications as he created various business opportunities. Most centered around an independent trucking business hauling various products and securing state contracts, then progressing into the business which is known today as Guers Top Soil and Mulch Products.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Charles D. Guers on June 16th, 2004.  William was the last of the eight Guers siblings to pass. Passed siblings are  brothers James R., husband to Viola and Agnes, Howard J., husband to Dorothy, Daniel W., and sisters Mary E. Lillie, wife to Robert, J., Elsie J. Bensinger, wife to Daniel, Frances L. Guers Sievering, wife to Howard, and his beloved sister, Gertrude A. Moyer, wife of Harold  J. Moyer.

Surviving are his brother-in-law Robert J. Lillie, husband of Mary, Cornwall, PA., and sister-in-law Jeanne Marie Guers, Pottsville, PA, wife of Daniel W. Guers. In addition to his wife, Grace Louise Guers, he is survived by three children, William L. Guers and wife Marion of Pottsville, daughter-in-law Cindy R. Schucker, Louise Guers Kalymun and husband Michael A. Kalymun of New Philadelphia, and Kristina Guers of Orwigsburg, as well as his grandchildren Pamela Palko, Scott Guers, Valerie Dib, Julie Wilharm, Thomas William Connors, and Katrina Connors, and eight and one on-the-way great-grandchildren.

He held memberships with the Masonic Lodge of Orwigsburg, the Gideon’s fellowship of Lewistown Valley, Lewistown Grange, and was a member of the Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church, Port Carbon. He did not have the opportunity to gain higher education but his life experiences made him a knowledgeable and successful businessman. He was proud that he was able to assure that all of his children attended higher education.

William was well known in Schuylkill County for his extreme generosity, work ethic, positive thoughts and kindness to all he would meet, and his loving smile.   He will be missed by all who had the honor to know him.

A Religious Service will be held on Saturday March 25th at 10:30AM at the Robert A Evans Jr Funeral Home, 208 Pike St. Port Carbon, with Rev. Lois Sterling officiating.

Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing on Friday evening from 6-8PM and Saturday morning from 9:30-10:30AM at the Funeral Home.
