Dorothy B. Lurwick, age 87, a resident of Rosewood Nursing Home in Schuylkill Haven, formerly of Port Carbon passed away Thursday, December 27th, 2018 at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Bethlehem.

Born in Rausch Creek, PA on March 15, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Theodore S. Boyer and Jennie M. (Kocher) Boyer Wolff.

Dorothy was a graduate of Tremont High School, Class of 1949. She was a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Port Carbon and the Port Carbon Senior Citizens.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband Frederick L. Powers on September 9, 1969, her second husband Edward J. Lurwick on September 10, 2002, and a brother Theodore Boyer Jr.

Dorothy is survived by four sons: Frederick L. Powers and his wife Karen, Pottsville, PA; Glenn R. Powers and his companion Deborah Cooper, Schuylkill Haven, PA; Bruce S. Powers and his wife Terisa, Hazleton, PA; and Gary A. Powers and his partner Miguel, Palm Springs, CA; two daughters: Rosemary Gappa and her husband Stan, Junction City, OR; and Bonnie S. Johns, St. Clair, PA; 11 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; a sister Nancy Brown, Raleigh, NC; two brothers: Leroy Boyer, Newtown, PA; and Steven Boyer and his wife Jane, Tremont, PA; a sister-in-law Mary Jane Boyer, Mechanicsburg, PA; and nieces and nephews.

A Religious Service will be held at the Robert A. Evans Jr. Funeral Home, 208 Pike St. Port Carbon on Friday January 4th at 11AM, with Pastor Lois Sterling officiating.

Relatives and Friends are invited to a viewing on Friday morning from 9-11AM at the Funeral Home.

Interment will be held in the Schuylkill Memorial Park Cemetery Schuylkill Haven, PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church c/o Denise Krater, 124 Canal Street, Port Carbon, PA 17965.
