Albert Joseph Yackenchick Jr.

On March 4th 1994, God sent Albert and Annetta Yackenchick the first joy of their married life, Albert Joseph Yackenchick Jr. For the next 27 years, he was a blessing to his family, his friends, and many others who briefly knew him. Albie graduated Blue Mountain High School in 2013, and was loved by his teachers and all of his classmates. He was president of the History Honor Society, and he was also a member of the English, Foreign Language, and National Honor Society. Albie graduated with high honors in the top of his class. As a young child, Albie was greatly influenced by a priest who he had great respect and admiration for, Father Edward B. Connolly. Throughout his entire life, they continued a beautiful friendship. Albie was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and the former St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, both in Pottsville. Albie was kind, forgiving, merciful, humble, patient and generous. He worked in social services, and loved serving the underserved. He admired the strength of the people he served, and he found his jobs very rewarding. Albie had a love for learning, truth, beauty, and God. He had a passion for sharing these with others. From an early age he would draw holy images and play music for his family. As Albie grew, his talents matured. He will always be our favorite artist, musician, poet, writer, and philosopher. He used these gifts to show his love for many, and especially his 9 siblings: Michael, Nicholas, Marissa, Mallory, Anthony, Nathan, Madalyn, Ryan, and Noah. Though Albie struggled greatly with depression he never let it conquer his beautiful Soul. In spite of his suffering, he never stopped loving his family, his friends, his foes, nor did he lose hope in his God. Though he struggled to love himself, he epitomized love for your neighbor. This courage that Albie showed facing depression will be a hope for all of us as we carry on waiting to see him again. The joy in his life came from spending time with family near and far, but most especially it was with spending time with his Nonna and Papa, John and Maria Mercuri. He enjoyed Sunday breakfast with his Uncle Donny, Uncle Johnny, and Uncle Ronny, and his loving aunts. He was especially fond of his partner in crime, his cousin Rachel Mercuri. He also leaves behind his Nanny and Pop Pop Kelley, and his Papa “on the farm” who never failed to make Albie laugh. He enjoyed his walks and talks with his Aunt Sharron Yackenchick, and loved being his Aunt Stacey’s little buddy. He had a great respect for his Uncle Chuck, his Uncle Brian, and Uncle Bobby, and a sincere love for his Aunt Johanna. His greatest love and happiness came from spending time with his 21 cousins. He has an abundance of love from great aunts and uncles from across the globe whose lives he has touched deeply. We will never forget the love he had for the homeland of his heart, Italy. He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents Joe and Helen Carr, Elizabeth and Albert Yackenchick, Domenico and Antonia “Nanna” Mercuri, and Vincenzo and Rosaria “Nonna Rosa” Mercuri. He will be forever keeping his eye on his beloved godchildren, Mathew Mercuri and Emma Kanfer. And lastly, he loved his four-legged brother, Westy. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in Pottsville at 11 AM on Saturday, July 10th, with Rev. Edward Connolly officiating. Relatives and Friends are invited to visit with the family on Saturday morning from 9:30-11AM at the Church. Interment will be held in the St. Joseph Cemetery in Pottsville.
