Charles R. Kramer, age 96, Pottsville, PA passed away peacefully on Monday, November 22nd, 2021 at Seton Manor Nursing Home in Orwigsburg.
Born in Pottsville, PA on August 4, 1925, he was the son of the late Roy and Gertrude (Ploppert) Kramer.
Charles served in the U.S. Army from 1943 till 1945. He worked as a Police Officer for 42 years. He started in Harrisburg at the State Capital Police Department in 1955 and later the Pottsville Police Force in 1960. In 1974, he became the Chief of Police in Mt. Carbon. In 1987, he started at Beaver Meadows Police Force and became a Corporal. He later retired as a Sergeant in 1997. Charles was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP 44). In 1980, he became a bus driver for the Minersville Area Catholic Schools and retired at age 80. He had a band, Lucky Kramer and The Melody Rangers. He played the guitar, harmonica, and sang. His favorite music was Country; especially songs by Hank Williams Sr. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed going to the casinos with his companion, watching game shows, westerns, baseball, and police stories. He enjoyed weight lifting for 72 years and was featured in York Barbell Magazine. This dedication and healthy lifestyle accredited to his longevity. He attended St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church and Mary Queen of Peace Church in Pottsville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son Jerry L. Kramer, two grandsons Steven A Stonelake and David W. Thomas Jr., three brothers: Roy, Elmer, and George Kramer.
Charles is survived by two daughters: Bonny Stonelake, Pottsville and Carol Ann Wheeler and her husband Sonny, Virginia Beach; two granddaughters: Shannon L. Murray and husband Brian, St. Clair, PA; and Tasha A. Frederick and her husband Travis, Virginia Beach; seven great-grandchildren: Xander Martin, Kolten Murray, Ashlyn Murray, Laney Frederick, Grady Frederick, Caleb Thomas, and Austin Thomas; his companion Ethel George, Minersville; granddaughter-in-law Tracie Thomas, widow of David W. Thomas Jr, Virginia Beach; sister Louise Gradwell, Pottsville; and several nieces and nephews.
A Religious Service will be held at the Robert A. Evans Jr. Funeral Home in Port Carbon at 11AM on Monday November 29th, with Deacon Larry Lonergan officiating.
Relatives and Friends are invited to a viewing on Sunday evening from 6-8PM and Monday morning from 10-11AM at the Funeral Home.
Interment will be held in the Schuylkill Memorial Park Cemetery in Schuylkill Haven, PA.
