Dolores McKenna Obituary

Dolores (Dean) McKenna passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 15,2024. Dolores was born on November 21, 1931, In Johnstown, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of the late Daniel C. Dean and Agnes (Huges) Dean.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Joseph A. McKenna. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Robert, his wife Mary, and their daughter Karen.
In addition to her husband, Dolores is also survived by two daughters, Anne, wife of John P. Blasko of Kingston NY and Kate, wife of Michael J Reber, Auburn PA, and granddaughters Bella Blasko, wife of Stuart Tenold, Kingston NY, and Theodora Blasko, Brooklyn, NY.
Dolores graduated from Pottsville Area High School in 1949, and Penn State University in 1953 with a Bachelor of Arts in English. Following graduation, she moved to Philadelphia and worked for The Ladies Home Journal. She married Joseph in 1955 and returned to Schuylkill County. She worked as a case worker for the Dept of Public Welfare, while pursuing a master's degree in social work at the University of Pennsylvania until the arrival of her daughters.
Once her daughters were grown, she became a Real Estate Broker at Higgins Associates in Pottsville, where she worked until her retirement.
Dolores enjoyed attending football games with her husband Joe at their alma mater, Penn State, for over 30 years. She and Joe also loved to travel and go to the theater, especially the Walnut Street Theatre in Philadelphia where they had season tickets for may years. She also enjoyed cooking with her husband, one of their favorites being Portuguese Chorizo Stew. She was a member of the Philanthrope Club.
Dolores was fortunate to have a close-knit group of friends that met weekly to play bridge and mahjong. She also enjoyed partnering with her husband playing Pinochle.
The joy of her life was her granddaughters, Bella and Theodora. She was particularly proud of their accomplishments.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday February 20th at 10:30AM at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Pottsville , with Rev. Phillip Rogers officiating.
Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing on Monday evening from 6:30-8PM and Tuesday morning from 9-10AM at the Robert A Evans Jr Funeral Home in Port Carbon.
Interment will be held private at Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hillside SPCA P.O. Box 233 Pottsville, PA 17901.
