Karen Ann (Wertman) Hanlon passed away Friday at her home surrounded by family after a courageous battle with head and neck cancer. Born in Pottsville on September 1, 1957, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Shirley (Webber) Wertman.
Karen graduated from Pottsville Area High School, Class of 1975, where she was Captain of Flags and a member of the Concert Choir. Karen worked as a secretary for the Pennsylvania National Bank for 25 years. She was a loving and proud daughter, mother, sister, niece, dog mom, friend, and grandmother.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother Thomas Wertman.
Karen is survived by her husband of 23 years, James Paul Hanlon Jr., Port Carbon; three children: Rachael Ann McGeoy, Port Carbon, John Kenneth McGeoy and his wife Kayla and their daughter Emma, Seltzer, and James Paul Hanlon III and his significant other Haley Elaine Zerby, Port Carbon and their unborn child Amber; a brother Timothy Kenneth Wertman, Port Carbon; a sister Sharon Jespersen, Port Carbon; three nephews: Timothy Joseph Wertman, Port Carbon, Josh Neil Jespersen. Colorado, and Eric Timothy Wertman, Pottsville; a niece Jessica Wertman, Pottsville; a step daughter Barbie Hanlon, Reading and her children Ciara Martin and Sarala Martin; and a step son Jeffery Hanlon and his son Marshall Hanlon, California.
Funeral Services will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Karen to the Hillside SPCA P.O. Box 233 Pottsville, PA 1 7901.
