Ray J. Beaver, 84 of Weatherly, passed away early Tuesday morning at Forest Hills Rehab Center, Weatherly. Born December 16, 1939, in Shenandoah, he was the son of the late George and Margaret Gannon Beaver. Ray graduated from the former Mahanoy City High School Class of 1957. Following high school, he served in the U.S. Army, Infantry division. Ray worked as a welder and a millwright for Bethlehem Steel Corp for 33 years. He was a parishioner of the former St. Jerome's R.C. Church, Tamaqua. Ray was the quintessential example of hard work and dedication, both in his career at the Steel and as a father, grandfather and great-grandfather to his family. A devoted outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting with his son and grandsons. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers George and William Beaver, and a sister Peggy Beaver. Ray is survived by his wife of 62 years, Patricia (Hovan) Beaver. Daughter Joan Smith, and companion Rick Gomez, St. Clair; Son Ray J. Beaver, Jr. and spouse Susie Beaver, Pottstown; and Michael Beaver of NY. 6 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren all of whom he adored, along with several nieces and nephews. Ray’s passion for his family and his unwavering spirit will forever be remembered.
