Renee Marie (Joseph) Sophy

Renee Marie Sophy, age 93, of Pottsville, PA passed away surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, February 21, 2026.

Born in Cranford, NJ on September 24, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Solomon and Marie (Sahadi) Joseph.

Renee was a graduate of Elmira Free Academy High School. She worked as a long-distance operator for Bell Telephone in New York and later Pennsylvania. She and her husband were the proud owners of the C&R Lunch Refreshment Stand at the Schuylkill Haven and Hometown Markets for more than 23 years. She also worked in food service at Pottsville Hospital for 10 years before retiring. Renee was a faithful member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Pottsville. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family, whom she loved fiercely. Proud of her Lebanese heritage, she was a woman of strength and conviction who always put her family first.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Charles J. Sophy Sr; her daughter, Suzanne Sophy; and her sisters, Laurice Santoro and Marietta Kimball.
Renee is survived by her two sons, Matthew C. Sophy, DO, and his wife, Melissa, and Charles J. Sophy Jr, DO; her grandchildren, Matthew J. Sophy, Elizabeth Sophy, MD, Benjamin Sophy-Voss, Lauren Dove, and Leanne Generella; her great-grandson, Aiden Dove; her sister, Charlotte Kerr; her brothers, Ronald and Vincent Joseph; and nieces and nephews. 

She will be interred along with her beloved husband in a private service with military honors at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
