Russell Holshue Obituary

Russell D. "Gus" Holshue, age 95, of Palo Alto, PA passed away Thursday, April 3, 2025 at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Schuylkill East, Pottsville.

Born in Pottsville, PA on August 28, 1929, he was the son of the late Russell Emerson and Theresa E. (Devlin) Holshue.

Russ was a graduate of St. Stephen Catholic High School, Class of 1947. He served in the U.S. Army as a Pvt during the Korean Conflict from 1951 till 1953 in Europe. Russ worked as a machinist at Reading Railroad then it became Conrail for over 30 years. He was a member of the former St. Stephen Roman Catholic Church in Port Carbon, the Mechanicsville Game and Fish Association, the St. Clair Old Timers, the East End Fire Company in Palo Alto, and the former Catholic War Veterans in Pottsville. Russ loved  the outdoors, going hunting and fishing, going on walks and hikes, and camping. He also loved parties and Polka dancing. Palermo's Restaurant was his favorite place to eat.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Alice Ruth (Wood) Holshue in September of 1995, a son Frederick "Fritz" Holshue, a daughter Theresa "Terry" Holshue, and a brother Richard Holshue.

Russ is survived by his children: Russell V. Holshue and his wife Corrine, Alice Ughes and her husband Walter, Janice Moore and her husband Patrick, Michael Holshue and his wife Bridget, Paul Holshue, Victoria Blankenhorn, and Tara Wallick and her husband Nevin; eleven grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren.  

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Stephen's Chapel in Port Carbon at 10:30AM on Tuesday, April 8th, with Rev. Edward Connolly officiating.

Relatives and Friends are invited to a viewing on Monday evening from 6-8PM and Tuesday morning from 9-10AM at the Robert A. Evans Jr. Funeral Home.

Interment with Military Honors will be held St. Stephen Cemetery in Port Carbon.
