Sean Stephen McGowan, Age 53 of Pottsville, PA passed away Monday, September 15th, 2025, at Geisinger St. Luke’s Orwigsburg Campus.
Born in Pottsville, PA on May 20, 1972, he was the son of the late James Joseph McGowan and Debra Ann (Homovich) McGowan, who survives him in Palo Alto.
Sean was a graduate of Pottsville Area High School, Class of 1991. He then earned an associate’s degree from Central Penn College, where he also played basketball. Sean worked for the Schuylkill County Municipal Authority in Pottsville and was a member of St. Clare of Assisi Catholic Church in St. Clair.
In addition to his mother, Sean is survived by his sons, Connor and Liam McGowan who he loved so much; two sisters, Amy McGowan (Christian Mills) and Jenny Guzick (Bernard); four nephews, Bernard Guzick, Hunter Guzick, Chase McGowan and Tristian Mills. Uncle and Godparents Joseph and Linda Homovich, Aunt Darlene Sorokach, Uncle William McGowan (Kathleen), Aunts Bridget Miller (Davison) and Ann Price (Keith) and many, many cousins and friends.
Sean enjoyed fishing and was an avid fan of the Michigan Wolverines. He loved his friends of which he had many. They knew him as “Lefty”, “Luther”, “Poker” and “Juice”. Every one of them loved his infectious laugh and fun-loving personality. The memories and stories are countless from hanging out at Tassone’s, the Famous, the A S of I, the Land, the Cabin, the Road and especially the story of the “Bowling Ball” will forever be in their hearts as will Sean.
A memorial Service will be held at Robert A. Evans, Jr. Funeral Home, Port Carbon at 10:30AM on Saturday, October 4th, with Msgr William Glosser officiating.
Relatives and Friends are invited to visit with the family on Saturday from 9:00-10:30AM at the Funeral Home.
Interment will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Sean’s memory to St. Clare of Assisi Catholic Church, 250 E. Hancock Street, St. Clair, Pa 17970 or to the East End Fire Company, 232 East Savory Street, Pottsville, Pa 17901.
