Helen F. Burkot Pogera, 86, passed away peacefully at Schuylkill Center, Pottsville, on April 13, 2016, with her three children by her side.
Born in Kaska, PA, on April 20, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Roman and Anna Marek Burkot.
She was a graduate of Blythe Township High School, was a licensed beautician for many years, and was employed by Rea & Derrick as a cosmetician.
In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 17 years, John V. Pogera, who died in a fishing accident on April 30, 1967, as well six siblings: Sophie Josefowicz, Walter Josefowicz, John Burkot, Frances Turnitsa, Ann Chiminitz, and Joseph Burkot.
Helen is survived by her three children, Ann Reeves of Saint Clair, Donna and her husband John Callaghan of Williamstown, NJ, and John and his wife Kimberly Pogera of Locust Gap; three granddaughters, Dana Reeves LeHew and her husband Eric, Stephanie Callaghan, and Michelle Callaghan; and three step-grandsons, Steven, Luke, and Taylor Haladay, and nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the St. Stephen Roman Catholic Church in Port Carbon on Tuesday April 19th at 11AM, with Rev. David Karns officiating.
Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing on Tuesday morning from 8:30-10:30AM at the Robert A Evans Jr Funeral Home, 208 Pike St., Port Carbon.
