George Edward Ondek, age 86, of Palo Alto, PA passed away on Monday, June 20th, 2016 at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.

Born in Nanticoke, PA on October 17, 1929,  he was the son of the late George and Loretta (Shemanski) Ondek.

George was a graduate of St. Stephen High School, Class of 1948. He then served in the U.S. Navy as a 2nd class seaman in the Korean Conflict.

George worked as a shipping clerk for Van Heusen in Schuylkill Haven and then for the Pottsville Area School District.

He was a member of the St. Stephen Roman Catholic Church in Port Carbon. George and his wife Rose traveled extensively throughout the USA. He was also an avid sports fan of all Pottsville and Philadelphia teams especially the Phillies, even going several times to spring training in Florida. George was a hard worker and really easy going.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 20 years, Rose (Laudeman) Ondek in 1980 and a sister Dolly M. Trabosh

George is survived by a sister Martina M. Casey and her husband George, King of Prussia; a brother-in-law James J. Trabosh, Palo Alto, PA; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Stephen Roman Catholic Church, Port Carbon, PA. at 11AM on Thursday, June 30th,  with Rev. David W. Karns officiating.

Relatives and Friends are invited to visit with the family on Thursday morning from 10-11AM at the Church.

Interment will be held in the Schuylkill Memorial Park Cemetery Schuylkill Haven, PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hillside SPCA PO Box Pottsville, PA 17965.

The Robert A Evans Jr Funeral Home 208 Pike St., Port Carbon is in charge of arrangements.

Sorry to hear about George. I sat with him at sporting events and shot th bull.

May George rest in peace. May his family be comforted by our Lord. George was a Supervisor of mine when I worked at Van Heusen; He taught me a lot and I remember him fondly.
